Welcome to the UK Council for Health Informatics Professions

The UK Council for Health Informatics Professions is the voluntary regulatory body for Health Informatics professionals, established to promote professionalism in Health Informatics and the certification of those who work in the profession.

Registration and certification is open to anyone currently working in Health Informatics,  whether for the National Health Service, for the private health care sector or for commercial suppliers to the health care sector.  The majority of registrants are employed in the United Kingdom, although we welcome individuals from elsewhere.

If you work in health informatics - in whatever role - you should register with UKCHIP as a Health Informatics professional. Being accepted onto the UKCHIP Register will:

  • Demonstrate your professional status as a health informatician
  • Prove that you have suitable qualifications and experience accredited by an independent health informatics body
  • Show that you work to the agreed UKCHIP Code of Conduct and standards
  • Allow you to stand, and vote, for the UKCHIP Council
  • Let you play a part in shaping the health informatics profession

Although our online register is linked directly our database, occasionally a registrant's name may not appear (for example, when they are in the process of renewing their registration). If you cannot find a name you are looking for, please contact admin@ukchip.net for confirmation.

UKCHIP View

The Government's response to the Francis Report

This week, the Government published its response to the Francis Report in an 84 page document which like the report itself will take some digesting. However key points mentioned include:

"Duty of candour....";

"...... who fail in their jobs to be barred from holding such positions in the future";

"Code of conduct and minimum training standards (for healthcare assistants), but not full registration scheme as recommended by inquiry".

UKCHIP welcomes these acknowledgements of what acting professionally needs to include and we will continue to provide the system offering these to Health Informaticians. When we have had the chance to absorb the full report we plan to publish more views.
